Wettbewerbsaufgabe
Seit 20 Jahren hat Nicolai Tangen Kunst des 20. Jahrhunderts gesammelt. Seine mehr als 1.300 Werke umfassende Sammlung ist die größte, umfangreichste und bedeutendste Privatsammlung norwegischer Kunst aus den 1930er bis 1970er Jahren. Jetzt hat Nicolai Tangen diese Sammlung seiner Heimatstadt Kristiansand geschenkt. Seit die Schenkung im Mai 2015 öffentlich bekannt gemacht wurde, sind Planung und Ideen für ein neues Kunstmuseum in Kristiansand schnell vorangeschritten. Der Museumsstandort wird sowohl die Sammlung Tangen als auch das bestehende Sørlandets Kunstmuseum beherbergen – in einem neuen Kulturviertel in bester Lage direkt am Wasser und neben dem Kilden Zentrum für darstellende Künste.
Ziel ist, eines der führenden nordischen Kunstmuseen zu schaffen, dessen architektonische Qualität auch seinem Status entspricht. Die Stadt hat vorgeschlagen, das Getreidesilo – eine Landmarke von Kristiansand – zum neuen Museum umzubauen.

An international architectural competition for a new art museum. The competition will be held in 2 stages. The first stage shall elucidate the possibility to adapt the new art museum in the entire or sections of a grain silo worthy of preservation, as well as elucidate how the area in the tender contest can be given an attractive, urban planning grip. 3 — 5 drafts will be selected. These drafts shall continue to stage 2, where the proposal for design of the art museum shall be further developed.
