Wettbewerbsaufgabe
Die Revolution der Würde, auch Maidan genannt, war eine ukrainische landesweite Protestbewegung, die von November 2013 bis Februar 2014 dauerte. Im Zusammenhang der Maidan-Ereignisse starben mehr als 100 Menschen. Sie wurden nicht alle identifiziert und bis heute fehlt die rechtliche Aufarbeitung der Verbrechen und die Identifizierung und rechtskräftige Verurteilung der Täter. 107 der getöteten Demonstranten wurden zu „Helden der Ukraine“ erklärt und sind als „Heavenly Hundred Heroes“ bekannt.
Im Anschluss an diese Ereignisse trugen einige Gruppen den Maidan-Geist in lokale und nationale Initiativen und bildeten Plattformen für Veranstaltungen und Dialoge, einschließlich der Idee, Orte des Gedenkens und der Reflexion zu etablieren.
Die Wettbewerbsaufgabe besteht aus zwei Teilen: dem Maidan Memorial, das Nationale Denkmal für die Heavenly Hundred Heroes, und dem Maidan Museum, das Revolution of Dignity Museum, beide situiert im Zentrum Kiews.
Das Maidan-Denkmal soll ein Ort für individuelle und offizielle Gedenkfeiern sein, welche die Ideen von Maidan symbolisieren und die Erinnerung für zukünftige Generationen bewahren.
Das Maidan-Museum soll ein multifunktionales Museum im Rahmen des Ukrainischen Instituts für Nationales Gedächtnis werden und wird eine staatliche Institution der wissenschaftlichen Forschung sowie ein Ort für kulturelle, päda-gogische und methodologische Aktivitäten sein.
Die Integration der Gedenkstätte in die vorhandenen Freiräume und die Topografie des Geländes ist Teil der Aufgabe.
Hinsichtlich der Position und Dimension der Gedenkstätte innerhalb des Wettbewerbsgeländes sowie der Möglichkeit, die Gedenkstätte in mehr als ein Element zu unterteilen, das möglicherweise unterschiedliche Dimensionen darstellt und/oder unterschiedliche Standorte innerhalb des Wettbewerbsgeländes belegt, gibt es keine Vorbestimmung.
Competition assignment
The Revolution of Dignity, also referred to as Euromaidan was a Ukrainian nationwide protest movement that lasted from November 2013 to February 2014. The Maidan events caused the death of more than 100 people – neither have all of them been identified, nor has the legal workup of the crimes been solved and the offenders been identified and brought to justice. 107 of the killed protesters have been declared ”Heroes of Ukraine“ and are known as ”Heavenly Hundred Heroes“.
The competition is divided in two competition parts – the Maidan Memorial and the Maidan museum. These tasks are subject of two parallel processes in Stage 1. For each part (”Maidan Memorial Competition“ and ”Maidan Museum Competition“), different competitors will be selected.
With two connected sub-tasks, the objective of the project focuses on the very center of Kyiv. Furthermore, the memorial-museum complex will include the Revolution of Dignity Museum building, the memorial for the Heavenly Hundred Heroes, a Maidan Information Center and a public space, that will organically connect to the administrative center of the capital of Ukraine.

Wettbewerbsaufgabe / Competition Task
Creating of the National memorial complex Heavenly Hundred Heroes in Kyiv, Ukraine.
Task of the competition:
– to work-out the project proposal for the memorial of Heavenly Hundred Heroes;
– to involve the best architects from different countries because of the worldwide level of the Maidan activities
– to take into account the previous work for the memorialization field and to raise a question of the future of Ukraine by the architecture and arts instruments.
The plot is situated in the central part of Kyiv, exactly on the place of tragic events of the Heavenly Hundred Heroes Alley.
The project proposals have to take into account:
– zoning of the complex that includes memorial zone and public space.
The project proposals have to create:
– memorial zone that is dedicated to the memory of Heavenly Hundred Heroes;
– decisions for the existing historical objects and artefacts.
Competition proposals must be submitted anonymyously in accordance to the conditions of the competition.

The admission area is unrestricted in terms of countries and regions.
Teilnehmer / Participants
Eligible for participation are artists/sculptors and individuals who, through recognition by the professional body in their country of residence, on the day of the announcement of the competition were entitled to use the occupational title “Architect” or “Landscape Architect”.
Individuals from countries where the occupational title “Architect” or “Landscape Architect” is not subject to statutory regulation are eligible, provided they hold a degree or similar certificate of professional aptitude that it is recognized in the EU under 2013/55/EU (EU directive on recognition of professional qualifications).
Eligible for participation are also consortia formed of individuals and legal entities that include at least one person eligible according to the previous paragraph. Legal entities are only eligible in such consortia if their statutory objectives include planning activities relevant to the competition task. Legal entities and architect consortia must name a single authorized representative who will be responsible for the fulfilling of the competition requirements according to the previous paragraph. The authorized representative as well as all authors of competition entries must meet the eligibility criteria applying to competitors. Notwithstanding the designation of a single authorized representative, each member of any consortia shall be jointly and severally liable for any submission from its consortium.
