Wettbewerbsaufgabe
Ziel des Wettbewerbs ist es, ein Haus mit einem Kultur- und Gemeinschaftshaus auf einem Grundstück zu entwerfen, das jetzt dem Kulturhaus Eden gehört, und ein Konzept für die öffentlichen Räume des gesamten betroffenen Gebiets vorzulegen.

Das Gebäude des Kulturhauses Eden befindet sich derzeit in einer anderen Umgebung als der, für die es ursprünglich konzipiert wurde. Mit der Fertigstellung des benachbarten Eden-Einkaufszentrums ging die ursprüngliche Einbettung des Gebäudes in das Gelände verloren, da das Niveau des Platzes im Vergleich zum ursprünglichen Zustand angehoben wurde.

Leider befindet sich das Gebäude trotz interessanter künstlerischer Artefakte seiner Zeit (insbesondere das Mosaik an der Fassade, die Lösung von Decken oder Glaselementen in den Innenräumen) in einem Zustand, der den heutigen baulichen und technischen Anforderungen und Standards nicht mehr entspricht. Ein Wiederaufbau ist aus mehreren Gründen fraglich, vor allem weil die ursprünglichen Qualitäten des Hauses verloren gehen würden. Es müsste mit der Außenhülle zurechtkommen, die den thermischen und technischen Anforderungen nicht mehr entspricht.

An anderer Stelle ist das Problem die geringe lichte Höhe, deren Erhöhung Eingriffe in die Statik des Hauses selbst erfordern würde. Auch diese Eingriffe können sensibel vorgenommen werden, gleichzeitig stellt sich aber die Frage, wie ein so geschlossenes und unzugängliches Objekt heute betrieben werden kann, wo die Anforderungen an das kulturelle und gemeinschaftliche Leben anderer Natur sind als zur Zeit seiner Entstehung. Wenn die Autoren jedoch in der Lage sind, das geforderte Programm mit dem Umbau des bestehenden Kulturhauses Eden zu verbinden und einen sinnvollen Betrieb des Gebäudes zu konzipieren, sind auch ihre Meinungen willkommen.

Es muss jedoch festgestellt werden, dass ein weitaus wertvollerer Gebäudekomplex in der Umgebung die Wohnsiedlung Vlasta ist, die (mit einigen Ausnahmen, wie der Schließung des Erdgeschosses und der Reduzierung der verglasten Fassadenflächen) gut gepflegt wird. Auf der nördlichen Seite der Wohnsiedlung befindet sich auch das Rathausgebäude, wo eine Rekonstruktion stattfinden wird, bei der das Gebäude in seiner ursprünglichen Zusammensetzung erhalten bleibt, jedoch mit einem einladenderen öffentlichen Raum zur Vršovická-Straße hin. In diesem Sinne ist es notwendig, nicht nur mit dem Raum des Kulturhauses Eden, sondern vor allem mit dem gesamten angrenzenden öffentlichen Raum neu zu arbeiten.

Competition assignment
The aim of the competition is to design a house with a cultural and community house on a plot now belonging to the Eden Cultural House and to present a concept of public spaces of the entire affected area.

At present, the building of the Cultural House Eden is located in a different environment than the one which it was originally designed for. With the completion of the neighboring Eden shopping center, the original installation of the building in the terrain was lost, because the level of the square was increased compared to the original state.

Unfortunately, the building is, despite interesting artistic artifacts of its time (especially the mosaic on the facade, the solution of ceilings or glass elements in the interiors), in a state that does not meet current construction and technical requirements and standards today. Reconstruction is debatable for a number of reasons, mainly because the original qualities of the house would be lost. It would have to cope with the peripheral shell, which meets the thermal and technical requirements no longer.

Elsewhere, the problem is low clear height, whose increase would require intervention in the statics of the house itself. These interventions can also be carried out sensitively, but at the same time there is a question of how to operate such a closed and unapproachable object today, when the demands on cultural and community life are of a different nature than at the time of its creation. However, if the authors are able to combine the required program with the reconstruction of the existing Cultural House Eden and design a meaningful operation of the building, their opinions are also welcome.

However, it is necessary to state that a far more valuable set of buildings in the vicinity is the Vlasta housing estate, which is (with some exceptions, such as closing the ground floor and reducing its glazed façade areas) well taken care of. On the northern side of the housing estate, there is also the town hall building, where a reconstruction will take place, which will preserve the building in its original composition but with a more welcoming public space towards Vršovická Street. In this spirit, it is necessary to newly work not only with the space of the Cultural House Eden, but above all with the entire adjacent public space.
