The goal of the competition is to find the best designs for a temporary Summer Pavilion as buildable proposals for an innovative temporary structure which provides shelter, shade, and seating for a range of events on a square inside the campus across the famous Gropius Bauhaus Building of 1927.
Just as this icon of Modernism stands for technical innovation and avant-grade design within its own period, the competition wants to address and demonstrate the capacity of contemporary architecture, by encouraging the employment of form-making and digital fabrication methods to transform space in order to captivate the public imagination.
As for the size of the task, the Summer Pavilion is set into a max. volume of 4.00 x 6.00 x 3.00 meters with a maximum height limitation of 3.00 m.
The competition winner will receive both a prize plus the offer to oversee the realization of the winning proposal on site, while the aim is to construct the Pavilion by the end of June 2014.
Jury
Prof. Alfred Jacoby, Anhalt University (Vors.)
Prof. Johannes Kister, Anhalt University
Prof. Ivan Kucina, Belgrade University
Prof. Neil Leach, USC Los Angeles
Prof. Lara Shrijver, Antwerp University
Prof. Constantin Weber, Anhalt University
„Nach Abwägung der Möglichkeiten wurde von der Jury beschlossen, dass der 3. Preis das Projekt war, welches am stärksten im speziellen Hinblick auf die Ausführungsplanung war, weshalb dieses am Ende realisiert wurde.“
